GOOD EVENING everyone – distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen – I feel very honored and privileged to stand here and talk to you about what has totally fascinated me for the last 10 years – that is the nature of reality, how we can explore and use this to become more successful in our lives. By successful I don’t simply means success in business and making a lot of money although I don’t preclude that either. I mean feeling authentic, valued, satisfied at peace with life.

One interesting aspect of personal mastery or self-realization is that it comes mostly from living through experiences not simply from knowledge. Maybe this is why people climb mountains. We can all climb our own mountains right here in our daily lives with the same amount of courage and dedication that it takes to survive a fearful storm at sea or climb a foreboding mountain. This journey is exciting, its about you, it’s a reason for living. You are an expression of consciousness on this planet and in this lifetime. You are unique. You have a place.
If tonight’s session helps you to refocus on where you want to go – that’s where you really want to go – and get into action, then we have spent some worthwhile time together.
WHO HAS HAD A PERFECT DAY - A PERFECT WEEK?
80%?, 70%?, 60%, 50%?,40%?, 30% (some hands begin to show.) This is what personal mastery is about. With personal mastery, your life slowly moves higher and higher towards what you can call your ideal life. You feel more in control as you become empowered by learning how to move your own limitations out of the way, as they crop up.
WHAT KEEPS US FROM LIVING OUR DREAMS
- Because of no time
- Because of lack of money
- Because of no commitment
- Because of our responsibilities to our families
- Because of fear
- Because of low self esteem/feeling inferior
LIVING THE DREAM
BUT WHAT IF ALL THESE REASONS WHY WE ARE NOT LIVING OUR DREAM ARE ACTUALLY BEING CREATED BY BELIEFS WHICH LIE UNDERNEATH THESE MORE OBVIOUS RESTRAINTS WHICH WE EXPERIENCE.
This was a turning point in the research that preceded the development of the Avatar program – the question was asked “What if there are beliefs behind every experience?” Up until that point it had been thought to be the other way around – that we have an experience and then take our beliefs from the experience. Seeing it the other way around – that beliefs underly every experience opened the doorway into exploring an individuals consciousness. Now instead of life happening to us, we can see it as an outcome. A result being caused by the beliefs we are holding at a particular time.
The trick is that many of these beliefs are not immediately apparent – we act through them without noticing. We call these beliefs Transparent Beliefs. They act like filters which we see through but which are not obvious to us – what is obvious however is the result they create such as all those reasons given before of why we don’t “live our dream”
So in Personal Mastery WE MUST HAVE AN ACTION PLAN –LIKE A ROAD MAP – TO GO FROM A TO B. To go from where you are now to where you want to be in a certain period of time. We do this because it is an organising principle which allows you to decide which things are aligned to moving you towards your goals and which things are not.
Just like when you set out on a journey to an entirely new place – you get a road map and begin to find the first landmark on the journey. Having reached that landmark you head for the next one and so on until you reach the destination. If on the way there are no familiar landmarks then you will probably turn around and retrace your steps until familiar territory appears and then reassess where you are and take another direction. This is a perfect analogy for personal mastery. You must, however, have an improved set of life skills which enable you to handle to obstacles and limitations which crop up on the journey. This is what Avatar teaches.
HOW DO WE SHIFT / MOVE ON – BY PLAYING WITH BELIEFS
By the end of the evening I want you to know 3 things

What I am talking about has fascinated man for centuries - similar such wisdom can be found in ancient traditions

The only difference between the Ming dynasty, Einstein and today is that we now know the mechanisms of consciousness and how to apply these towards self-realization or personal mastery.
By self realization I mean living to be the fullest biggest person that you know you are – jumping through the limiting ideas you have of yourself to realize your full potential.
This is different for everybody.
Not everybody wants to be a politician, or a doctor or a public speaker for that matter.
Everyone has a unique path and a set of unique lessons contained along that path. What it mean is that you have the capacity to fulfill any desire or dream that you truly hold.
The only thing that stops you are your fears and your fixed ideas about yourself.
The degree with which you transcend these ideas will determine the success you feel in your life.
I came to Malaysia first in 1972 – the first multi story building was just being finished. I returned in 1994 and wow – what you people have created in that time simply blew my socks off. And the positive spirit that was everywhere was a delight after living through the recession of 1987 and the follow on years in Australia. It was like stepping onto another planet.
Professionally I am a building designer and I have had the good fortune to have played a significant role in designing some very impressive buildings around the world – Australia, Europe, USA and even at the South Pole. Malaysia dropped a Proton on the North Pole – I dropped an igloo on the South Pole!. When I saw what you had here in KL my jaw literally dropped – spectacular, exciting.
I WANTED TO BE A PART OF IT.
As often happens with a foreigner coming here, I started to learn some Bahasa Malaysia. Selamat Pagi etc – you know all the basic expressions.
I was living in Damansara and travelling often past Bukit Pantai and Jalan Bangsar and noticed a building with a very big neon sign that read ZOZO.
I asked my friends "What does ZOZO mean in Malay? "No-one could answer –they had never heard of it.
Then one day I was travelling in my friends car down Federal Highway and there it was again – I pointed it out - she exclaimed – that’s not ZOZO that 2020 – what’s 2020 I replied That’s our Wawasan 2020 and she explained that Malaysia has a Vision 2020 – a 25 year vision of where this country is going. WOW WOW AGAIN.
I’d been doing corporate vision work in Australia before coming here – 3, year 5 year visions – but a country with a 25 year vision. I WAS IMPRESSED.
Can anyone here imagine what the number 6 billion means? 6 billion of anything?
Well, there are 6 billion people on this planet.
To be a billionaire in

USA 1000 $US
In Indonesia’s with 100,000 US you can be a billionaire. With 100 you can be a millionaire.
The point I am making is that it is beyond our scale of understanding to multiply something by 6 billion and have an understanding of the kind of result that may produce.
Even way down to multiplying by a few million the same applies. Winning 1 million SportsToto is an unimaginable thought for many people and seems a fortune and yet upwards of 1 billion gets traded on the KLSE every day – every good day. Can you imagine the effect of 10 million people all thinking Malaysia Boleh?
Expeditions to Mt Everest, LRT, Petronas Towers = that’s what you get. People are encouraged to be a part of it, to take a risk , to throw their piece into the ring and play the game.
Can you imagine the effect of those same people all of a sudden changing their thoughts to fears and ideas about needing to shrink and survive – batten the hatches. Very quickly it becomes Malaysia Tak Boleh.
We want to turn this around. We want to have 10 million people recognizing what is actually happening and thinking of new ways to do business. We are in the midst of massive change – and in massive change exist big opportunities.
Malaysians now have first hand experience of the importance of a vision, the importance of having something to work towards. The achievements in the run-up to the games were simply incredible – everyone had that as a mark in time . Similarly you now have the MSC – story of Bens launch and how it included multimedia.
Movement is towards the goal and the other events along the way come and go but the focus remains out in front like a horse with its eyes blinkered solidly plodding along towards the destination.. This is the skill of truly great leaders – they inspire poepl to keep movong towards the goal. Malaysians also have an experience of a truly great leader and man of vision.
I want to talk to you in terms of BELIEFS – every thought process, every idea, every feeling, every emotion, every judgement – these are all beliefs.
I want you to know by the end of my talk here tonight, the importance of beliefs.
That beliefs have power, they are real forces, they create outcomes. They are the fundamental building blocks that you use to construct your reality.
CHARACTERISTICS OF BELIEFS
EXIST AT THE CONSCIOUS AND BELOW CONSCIOUS LEVELS
They are the thoughtforms through which you create, interpret and interact with reality
ACT AS A BLUEPRINT FOR YOUR LIFE
CREATE A SENSE OF SEPARATION BETWEEN THE SELF AND THE UNIVERSE eg This is me That is not me.
THEY ARE REAL FORCES THAT HAVE CONSEQUENCES
ACT AS A FILTER ON REALITY
Many beliefs are transparent
SELF FULFILLING ALWAYS AS TRUE
They create experiences which confirm the truth of what is believed eg Life is hard
I want to talk to you about the importance of what information you allow to influence you – what information goes inside your head and becomes your conversation that you have with yourself. It is what you believe about yourself and life.
These ideas can come from talking with other people, they can come from the newspapers, and they can come from the Television.
When someone says – “Its hard to do business these days” do you say Yes I dont know what we are going to do OR do you say We have to find other ways of doing. These are the beliefs you consciously or unconsciously take on. It is a continuous process.
I cannot stand here without beliefs
- Beliefs make my heart go
- Beliefs make me want to do this talk
- Beliefs make me dress the way I do
- Beliefs give me the ability to talk to people
What if I said to you That THERE ARE NO MISTAKES and you really believed it?
- WHAT WOULD YOU TRY?
- WHAT HAVE YOU GIVEN UP ON?
- IF IT WASN’T FOR A LACK OF SOMETHING WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
There are only situations that you like or don’t like and stay stuck in them without knowing any way to change them. AND THAT ALL SITUATIONS HAVE A PLACE – THEY TEACH YOU ABOUT LIFE IN ALL ITS DIMENSIONS – THEY TEACH THAT SOME ASPECTS OF LIFE WILL ALWAYS REMAIN UNKNOWN – THIS IS THE MYSTERY OF LIFE.
History is a reflection of the evolution and conflict of belief systems. All begin with a single belief that gets built upon – often put forward as a spontaneous reaction to a situation eg stay away from the tiger or he might try and eat you.
Which reminds me of a story about a tiger....
He was padding through the jungle and came upon a monkey. Let out a mighty roar and asked who is the mightiest in the jungle – the monkey said why you king of the jungle.
Then he came upon a zebra – same. Then he came upon an elephant and let a mighty roar and asked . The elephant went over and grabbed him and threw him down against a tree trunk he then walked over and picked him up and threw him down again and walked off. The tiger remarked, “’Ok so you don’t have to get angry just because you don’t know the right answer!!”
If the belief served to make life more interesting it spread and acquired a status of a solution or knowledge – it could be used to support and structure other beliefs eg Its not safe in the jungle Why? The tiger lives there. Inexplicably to the tiger, he suddenly has the notion to eat someone. Thus belief systems or bodies of knowledge arose.
Beliefs became solutions – did they arise from a situation needing a solution or did they create a situation that needed a solution. Was the jungle dangerous because of the tiger or because of the beliefs about the tiger. It occurs to the tiger to scare the socks off anyone who comes into the jungle.
Then someone discovered that belief solutions could be sold as valuable items entitled “How to deal With tigers” which works as long as the tiger can be coaxed into being dangerous. Over time individuals, families and finally even tribal organisations came to have strong vested interests in belief solutions. Economic survival from the sale of belief solutions or social status from the gift of belief solutions often depended upon carefully managed balance between Tigers and solutions. Beliefs become enthroned.
Dogs and horse are also great examples of how an animal behaves exactly in accordance with the beliefs the person coming near them has.
Belief systems last because they help people understand the world they live in and life they live. They explain life’s mysteries – often painful mysteries.
They last a long time only if they contain wisdom.
WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE CREATES AN OUTCOME – THE ONLY QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF IS “WHAT AM I BELIEVING RIGHT NOW AND WILL IT PRODUCE THE OUTCOME I WANT?
MEDICINE – already it is predicted that it will no longer exist in 100 years. EASTERN holistic WESTERN pain control and localized diagnosis – now moving closer together. Western medicine begins to concern itself with creating health and consciousness – the way we create our disease. There is a book called Love Your Disease – it Keeps you Healthy. Disease – DIS EASE lack of ease in the body. Many people are now finding ways to access the deeper levels of their own consciousness and heal themselves. Dr Deepak Chopra is the champion of bringing this awareness to the people.
SCIENCE – model of the atom.
THE CORPORATE CULTURE you work in is a belief system – all the things people commonly hold as true. For example.
- This is a great company
- This boss is very tough
- You never get any acknowledgement for extra effort so why bother
- The management don’t know what they are doing
- I’ll never get promoted
- Nobody else ever takes any care
- I am the only one who can do this
- They cannot manage without me
- I mustn’t take a holiday because they might not want me back
- This business is going broke
- What I think doesn’t matter
- Malaysia Boleh
- Malaysia’s really coming up
- Malaysia’s being manipulated by outsiders
- We must protect ourselves
- We are proud of our athletes
AND NOW ITS YOU
Yes you are a belief system – unique, dynamic always changing. You can name some of your beliefs – the ones foremost in your mind. Example
- You must work hard to get ahead
- I must be very careful now because the economy is uncertain
Its YOU and YOUR belief system we want to take a brief look at tonight and see how that can be oriented towards more success and action that can JUMP START YOU FIRST.
Do you ever wonder why each of our lives can be so different to each other/ even in families – a brother, sister who has an entirely different life – they may be far wealthier. Poorer, successful, addicted to something – drugs, alcohol, drama, work.
The reason is that each of us holds DIFFERENT BELIEFS. These have real power.
- These beliefs are every thought emotion, idea feeling memory – any mental process.
- THEY CREATE OUTCOMES / RESULTS. SOME are positive, useful desirable
- SOME are not – they are limiting and can be sabotaging
- SOME exist in opposition to each other so no movement forward can occur. No prioritisation.
THE DEGREE TO WHICH WE TRANSCEND THESE LIMITATIONS DETERMINES THE SUCCESS WE HAVE IN LIFE
In the context of this economic crisis I want to ask you what limiting beliefs are you having. What are the ideas that keep you unsure, that keep you from taking action.
We have over 60,000 beliefs which go through our mind every day. The surprising thing is that most of them, around 80%, are the same today as the ones you had yesterday. The same old record goes around and around day after day with minor variation.
AND IT KEEPS PRODUCING THE SAME RESULT
You can think of it like a computer
- YOUR BODY IS THE HARDWARE
- YOUR MIND IS THE SOFTWARE
- YOUR LIFE IS THE OUTPUT OR PRINTOUT.
THE GOOD NEWS is that beliefs can be changed
Beliefs can be managed to produce desirable outcomes some people call this role modelling.
THE BAD NEWS
Not many people know that this is possible or how to do it.
They believe that THEY ARE THEIR BELIEFS and they stay stuck in situations that they feel powerless to change. THEY ARE NOT THEIR LIFE – THEIR LIFE IS A PRODUCT THAT COMES FROM THEM – FROM THEIR CONSCIOUSNESS – FROM THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE.
RADICAL CHANGES IN HEALTH MIRACLE CURES ARE DIRECLY LINKED TO A CHANGE IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PATIENT – IN OTHER WORDS HE CHANGES HIS BELIEFS ABOUT HIMSELF AND THE SITUATION HE FINDS HIMSELF IN.
Major health problems – heart, cancer, rheumatism all have major components that relate to the beliefs the patient holds about themselves.

- You are 10 and get disciplined for something you didn’t do or that wasn’t your fault
- You are now at school and are waiting for your final exam results
- You are now working in your first job
- You have your first love affair
- You are now sitting in a traffic jam
- You see travel overseas
- You are your present age and an economic crisis hits the country.
LOOK BACK OVER THOSE IDEAS
- You have just created a person’s consciousness
- The thing that creates outcomes in their life, their printout.
- This is what determines the life you lead.
ELEVEN “GOING-NOWHERE” CONVERSATIONS YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL
1. Dwell on Past Mistakes and Failures
Focussing on things which cannot be changed

You must change your approach, your way of thinking. All the ideas contained in the above conversations will create outcomes for you. Are they outcomes you want?
This is how we accumulate our ideas on life – some are helpful many are not.
WE SPEND YEARS ACHIEVING AN EDUCATION SO WE CAN WORK IN SOME DISCIPLINE AND NO TIME ON HOW TO ACTUALLY HAVE A GOOD LIFE
The second major component of personal mastery is
TO BE ABLE TO CREATE YOU NEED WILLPOWER AND THE ABILITY TO FOCUS ATTENTION
Will is associated with stubborness or obstinacy. From disuse the individuals will falls into a deep sleep a kind of stupor. Personal responsibility is lost. Methods of indoctrination have been developed into highly effective technologies over the last ten milleniums.
Low willpower creates an addiction to direction.
The proper use of will power is not the conquest and subjugation but the disciplined control of ones own attention.
Freedom is a measure of the number of decisions a person makes.
The will is the bridge between the physical and the mental.
When you put your attention on something you grow towards it. It becomes more real.
Reality is sustained by attention – it is the vcreating energy of both consciousness and the universe. It is the cvrossover region whweere thought changes to perception – the area where consciousness transforms into a reality that is apparent to the senses ansd vice versa. This is where the physical manifests, where the word becomes universe.
The function of the will is to decide, place, shift or remove attention.
Every identity eg your name definition description abilities acts as a resistance to the flow of attention. When resistance to attention exceeds the flow of attention being directed by the will, one experiences exhaustion, overwhelm and confusion.
Chronic conditions – chronic fatigue syndrome, attention deficiency disorder.
RELEASING FIXED ATTENTION
Everything flows – eventually. It may become stuck on something but sooner or later it will flow. When a persons attention is nearing exhaustion an inventory should be taken “Whats important here? What isnt really important here. Ask Whats really important about that. Usually assigned by the observers.
How people habitually react to running out of attention determines their success in life.
When attention is exhausted:
- Some people become victims – they react by asserting a disability as an excuse. They succeed by failing
- Some people give up they react by criticizing the task. They seldom succeed.
- Sometimes people scheme and seek shortcuts; they react by rationalizing or altering procedures. To succeed, they need accurate instructions and constant supervision.
- Sometime people get angry or irritable they react by blaming or joking. To succeed their responsibility needs to be clearly defined
Sometimes people acknowledge the overwhelm without taking it personally, they react by trying again. They succeed.
Living requires a flow of attention. Compare the innocent gaze in the eyes of a new born baby to the vacant stare of a derelict or drug addict. Who has the greater attention? What has happened.
There must be a flow of attention. So when this can be no longer sustained from an inner connection with your own sense of source and personal power, one turns outward for the attention. This leads to pretense, courting displays, people pleasing behaviors. The pursuit of fame wealth and power ensue
- One feel starved for attention and begins to borrow from others to sustain himself. When attention cannot be attracted from others it will be imagined
- When it cannot be imagined it will be demanded. This is the motivation behind all criminal behaviour- to get caught and capture the attention of the press and courts.
If attention is not directed by the Willpower then it behaves in accordance to the environment or to old habits.

- When I am quick to find errors in others I have failed to correct myself.
- When my acts are designed to persuade another I doubt myself
- When I experience struggle with the world I have denied responsibility for my own creations
- When I feel separate and alone I have failed to forgive
- When events repeat themselves in my life there is a lesson I need to learn.
I WANT TO GO DEEPER WITH YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW BELIEFS WORK AS REAL FORCES IN YOUR LIFE.
BELIEFS ARE ALWAYS TRUE (for you)
Do you ever wonder why you cannot convince anyone else to change their minds about something some idea that is very important to them? They have all the reasons why it is so – they have the proof to convince themselves it is true.
Let me show where the proof comes from
This is one of the most fascinating things we have discovered about beliefs. It is that they act like generators – when you hold a belief, it generates the experiences and proof that prove that the belief is true

REALISE THAT THE POINT OF POWER IS NOT IN THE BELIEF ITSELF BUT IN BECOMING AWARE THAT YOU CHOOSE BELIEFS ALL THE TIME AND TO TAKE CONTROL OF THIS PROCESS SO THAT YOU CHOOSE BELIEFS WHICH WORK FOR YOU.

You can adopt beliefs from other people you admire
- Some beliefs are tricky
- They are like an iceberg – 1/8 above the water and 7/8 below In other word 7/8 of your beliefs are not aware of
- In this case we can work backwards.
- We take the experience we are having and work it backwards
- What belief would someone have to have to create this experience?
YOU ARE NOT YOUR LIFE
YOUR LIFE IS A PRODUCT OF YOU – IT IS A STATEMENT OF YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS, YOUR AWARENESS IN TIME.
IT IS A STATEMENT OF YOUR CREATIVE POWER.
I QUOTED BEFORE ANYTHING YOU TRULY WANT HAS WITHIN IT THE MECHANSIM TO ACHEIVE IT.
Think about that for a moment. This doesn’t apply to anything but to the things that you truly want, those things you are passionate about, that fire you up with energy and excitement when you think about them.
- Things that absorb you totally – when you are pursuing them time just flies by
- This is an incredible piece of knowledge – anything you truly desire
- YOU CAN ACHIEVE. DON’T GIVE UP.
The only thing you need to know is how to handle the obstacles, the limitations that occur on the way.

Handle limitations and obstacles by uncovering the sabotaging beliefs, which are creating them.

- However, you must be aligned to what you truly want

Write alongside them all the ideas you have about them and that you have about achieving that goal.
